Martha Pippen Obituary

Martha Catherine Pippen was born to Joe Boatman and Chrissie Bone Boatman on October 26, 1922, in Cottonwood Community northwest of Cisco.  She is a native of this area al her life.  She attended Cottonwood School and Cisco High School.  She married Clifford Roswell Pippen in Cisco in 1938.

Catherine was employed at Boss Manufacturing Company over 20 years.  She worked briefly as a waitress at the Spot Café and for 17 years at Russel Newman.  She taught Sunday school at Bluff Branch Baptist Church and The Church of the Nazarene totaling 22 years.  She led choirs and Christian plays, gave birthday parties, Halloween parties, banquets, swimming parties and socials to entertain the young people in her classes.

For years she sang at funerals, solos, with a women’s trio, and with a quartet that performed at community singing meetings in this part of Texas and lower parts of Oklahoma.  The quartet sang on the radio for over a year.  She sang at the Easter Sunrise Service for Stephenville Pleasant Hill Methodist Church for 3 years.

 

Catherine started displaying Christmas yard decorations in 1956 with a manger scene.  Every year decorations were added.  It became so large that the family started coming on Thanksgiving to help put it all up.  Her decorations delighted the families of Cisco and the surrounding communities for over 50 years.  She loved The Lord and wanted to show her love to the entire community by celebrating Christ’s birth.

Catherine was preceded in death by husband, Clifford Pippen, parents Joe and Chrissie Boatman, a brother Henry Boatman, and a sister Oletta Hagan, and great great-granddaughter Sophia Bella Foster. 

She is survived by 2 daughters, Lynda Foster and husband Vernon of Cisco; Judy Singleton and husband Kenneth of Palo Pinto, TX.

Five grandchildren: Cynthia Foster DeHoyos and husband Mark of Hawley, TX; Craig Foster of Cisco, TX; Kelly singleton York and husband David of Grand Prairie, TX; Desray Singleton and wife Cy of Fort Worth, TX; Ricky Singleton and wife Copeland of Ponder, TX.

Great grandchildren: Joshua Davis and wife Robin of Abilene, TX; Shawnea and husband Curtis Cleveland of Abilene, TX; Lauren Foster of Arlington, TX; Chase and Hunter York of Grand Prairie, TX; Samantha and husband Jeremy Posey of Burleson, TX; Pippa Catherine Singleton of Fort Worth, TX; Hayden and maverick Singleton of Ponder, TX.  Six great-great grandchildren:  Trevor Cleveland, Jackson, Lilly and Andrew Davis, Aleena Foster.  One step great grandson Anthony DeHoyos of Abilene, TX and a special friend, Jake Marinelli of Fresno, California.
