James E. McKoy "Jim", age 93, of Cross Plains, TX, peacefully transitioned to be with his Lord and Savior on April 18, 2024, with his wife by his side. Born on February 14, 1931, in Breckenridge, TX, Jim was the son of Truman Wallace McKoy and Ida Verne Castleman McKoy.

Jim led a life filled with love, service, and dedication. He pursued knowledge and earned his Bachelor of Science in Business from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK, all while proudly serving his country as a member of the Marine Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant. His commitment extended into his professional life, where he dedicated 35 years to the Huber Corporation.

Jim always loved sports, where he excelled in all athletics having played football in High School, College, and for the Marine Corp. An avid golfer and esteemed member of the Shady Oaks Golf Course in Clyde, TX, Jim found joy amidst the greens. He was known as "Sure Shot" by his golfing buddies because he rarely missed a putt. His adventurous spirit thrived in the great outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting, golfing, tennis, and seeking new adventures around his beloved home. A loyal supporter of Oklahoma State University, Jim's passion for life and sports was infectious. Jim's exuberance and zest for life were evident to all who knew him. Even into his 80s, he maintained a vigorous exercise routine, inspiring those around him with his boundless energy. His generosity knew no bounds, as he invested his time in mentoring students, particularly in the realm of youth sports, fostering growth and confidence in the younger generation. Jim made all those in his path feel important.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Becky McKoy, her mother, Barbara McKoy, and brothers T.W. McKoy and Joe McKoy.

In his family, Jim found his greatest joys and treasures. Jim is survived by his loving wife Garnette McGowen McKoy of Cross Plains, TX, daughter Susan Wilson and husband Steve of Colleyville, TX, and his brother Errol McKoy and wife Sandy of Dallas, TX. Jim was blessed to have 11 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. Additionally, he leaves behind two step-children, Chad Bagley and wife Tina of Tolar, Texas, and Shana Hinyard and husband Dustin of Cross Plains, TX. He also leaves behind a nephew, several nieces, and a multitude of cherished friends.

James E. McKoy's legacy of love, kindness, and vitality will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for his unwavering spirit and the immeasurable impact he made on the lives of countless individuals.

Memorial services will be held Friday, April 26, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene at 7457 West Lake Road.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cross Plains Volunteer Fire Department, Cross Plains, TX.
