Pastor, farmer and rancher Benny Dale Hagan’s love of life did not come to an end with his death on July 20, 2022; instead, Benny peacefully crossed over into a new phase of life and is more alive now than before. Benny lived a life full of love for Jesus and a love for the body of Christ here on Earth and left a lasting grace on the many people he touched. Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27) was the heartbeat of his life and ministry. Benny didn’t only go to heaven when he died - he had already been experiencing and living the realities of heaven here on earth.
Benny was born in 1933 to Jess Benjamin Hagan and Lucy Elizabeth McGaha Hagan. He was the first of four children, followed by Carol Hagan Clower, Lynn Hagan and Suzette Hagan Bostic, now deceased. We appreciate Carol & Dennis Clower and Lynn & Rosetta Hagan for caring for and watching over dad these last few years. We are especially grateful to Charlene Denton Cambell for the loving care she gave our dad. She truly gave her service unto Christ.
Benny was preceded in death by the love of his life, Peggy Ann Lancaster Hagan. He is survived by his children Lee Ann Brewster Lancaster of Arlington, John Mark Hagan of Cleburne, James Dale Hagan of Midlothian and Lucinda Lee Hagan Cook of Buda. He is survived by eight grandchildren and many great grandchildren. We all rejoice that we will see him again because of the hope found only in Jesus Christ.
Benny was called at the age of 17 to enter the gospel ministry. His first pastorate was at Corinth Baptist in 1955 and continued at churches in Olden, Goree and Wilson Tx. In 1967 Benny moved back to Eastland County and traveled as an itinerant evangelist for three years sharing his revelation of the indwelling Christ. In 1970 he became the pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church in San Angelo, Tx. In 1974 he moved back to Cisco, Tx and became a bi-vocational pastor/peanut farmer. He pastored Tonk Valley Church near Graham Tx, a shared congregation of Baptist and Methodist. In 1984 he came back to Corinth where he pastored until his retirement in 2018. In addition to his pastorate, Benny also pastured many cattle.
