Finis Buck Whitehead, 89, of Abilene was called Home on July 19, 2025 at Lyndale Memory Care in Abilene, Texas.
Buck was born May 18, 1936 in Cisco, Texas to Andrew “Dee” and Nellie (Nell) Sophronia (Fox) Whitehead. Buck grew up in Cisco and married his high school sweetheart, Donnice Jean Johnson for 54 wonderful years (passing in 2011). He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
After his service with the United States Navy and National Guard, he worked for the Texas Department of Transportation for 35 years, retiring in 1993. On the day he retired, he took off his watch and never wore a watch again. He was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and was an avid golfer. He even had 3 hole-in-ones, all on the same hole. It brought him great joy watching his kids, grandkids and great grandkids play sports. He also loved to watch football and old western movies along with fishing and telling stories of days gone by.
Buck is survived by his daughter, Kerri Hewitt & husband, Mark, of Abilene; son, Frank Buck Whitehead & wife, Beverly, of Colorado Springs, CO, five grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in Oakwood Cemetery, Cisco, TX, with Mark Hewitt (son-in-law) officiating.
