Gayla Sue Robinson-73, passed away June 9 2021 in Hendricks Hospice care in Abilene Tx. She was born March 29, 1948 in Abilene, Texas to Gale and Ruby Nunally. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday June 10, 2021 at Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Gayla graduated from Abilene High School class of 1966. She forfeited a career early in life in exchange for raising a beautiful family of two sons and sometimes a husband. She married Irvin Eugene “Cookie” Robinson on July 31, 1967. She loved her boys more than anything in the world and would defend them like a momma bear as witnessed by many teachers and coaches at Baird high school. Gayla loved to fish and hunt but more than anything in the world she loved to watch her boys play sports. Especially football. Every Friday night you could hear her and Cookie up in the stands hollering for number 50 and number 44.
Gayla also loved her momma and daddy and sisters and her nieces and nephews and cousins. She loved her family more than anything in the world. The more the merrier. Many times, whether at her house or the lake cabin, there would be 4 or 5 conversations going on at the same time and somehow Gayla would be in on every single one and never miss a beat.
Gayla also loved the Lord. She was a Christian and spent a large portion of the earlier years of her marriage trying to teach (beat) it into her sons and her husband. Although it took a while and some really hard knocks and some hard life lessons, she eventually got it done. Not in the most conventional way however or the most traditional but she knew that didn’t matter.
Gayla was preceded in death by both of her parents and her son Rusty Lynn Robinson as well as numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. Surviving her are her husband Cookie and son Burke and wife Cami Robinson of Putnam Texas. As well as the lights of her life granddaughters Kaitlyn and Sierra Robinson of Abilene and Granbury Texas, two sisters Cindy Burford and husband Dave and Kelly Stowbridge and Randy Kemp, Sister-in-law Dianne Vickers and husband Jerry, and Brother-in-law James Cope and wife Linda. And nieces Stacey Kersey, T J Kersey, Jenifer Benton and Caleb, David Lee Stowbridge and Jennifer Stobridge, Amber Vickers, Jason Vickers and Lauren, and Tara Pirsch and Ben.
Gayla also leaves behind some beautiful friends and caregivers. She may never know the love and care that was given to her upon her death but we will be forever grateful. A special thank you to Cathy Ross her continual caregiver, Rhonda Cooper and the staff at Northern Oaks, and especially the doctors and nurses of Hendricks Hospice care. You all made a terrible situation into a bearable ordeal. Much love and God bless you all!!!
