Obituary

Hazel Elnora Knight Grieger, 70, of Irving, Texas, passed away on December 30, 2022.

Hazel was born at Fort Hood Army Base, near Killeen, Texas on April 30, 1952. She graduated from Cisco High School, in Cisco, Texas, in 1970. She received her nursing degree from Dallas Baptist University. Hazel continued her education at UT Southwestern and graduated as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. She married Wallace Joahn Grieger, Jr. on May 22, 1971 in CIsco, Texas.

As a child, Hazel knew she wanted to be a nurse. She worked very hard to make that dream a reality. She even met her future husband, Wallace, while she was working as a candy-striper at the hospital in Eastland, Texas. In her youth, she attended East Cisco Baptist Church with her family, where Hazel and Wallace would later marry. Hazel was most recently a very active member of Irving Baptist Fellowship, where she served as a Trustee. She also occasionally sang solos at her church. Hazel was employed at Golden Life Wellness Center of Texas as the Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner, specializing in women’s health. Hazel was a life-long avid reader. She spent many years serving as a troop leader with the Girl Scouts of America. She loved spending time with her large extended family, especially during the Christmas holidays.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Clara Hallmark and William Knight; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold A. Simpson and Mr. and Mrs. Noel V. Knight; a brother-in-law, Al Rogers; brother-in-law, Les Grieger; and a sister-in-law, Sherry Norris. Hazel and Wallace departed this life the same way they lived it, together, as they both died at their home on the same day.

Hazel is survived by her children, son, John Grieger and wife, Tabitha, daughter, Kelli Grieger, and grandchildren, Julie Grieger, Justin Grieger, Abram Grieger, Silas Grieger, Austin Falin, Kaylyn Falin Laws, Justin Falin, Shelby Ann Peace, Kerwin Pittenger, and Laurel O’Brien. She is also survived by a brother, Billy Knight and wife, Shelley; three sisters, Mary Rogers, Linda Burns and husband, Dale, Sue Tabor and husband Sy; brother-in-law, James Grieger; sister-in-law, Joyce Roepke; sister-in-law, Connie Carroll; along with numerous nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends and family from 1 to 3 PM on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Kimbrough Funeral Home in Cisco, Texas, followed by a Memorial Service for both Wallace and Hazel Grieger at 3 PM. A private burial will be held at a later date in the Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco, Texas.
