James Marvin Gayle, age 81, passed away June 10, 2020 in Mesa, AZ. James was born June 21st, 1938 in Waco, Texas to James Levi and Jesse Mae Gayle. He was married for 59 years to Shirley Ann Adams of Cisco, TX, eldest daughter of Howard and Sally Jo Shelton.
James met his wife at the University of North Texas and served his country in the Air Force. He enjoyed a long career with IBM (Los Angeles,CA) in the largescale computer business first as a Field Engineer starting in 1963 with accounts like Lockheed and Hughes Aircraft. James later became a manager and spent the last part of his career as an Executive on Loan to the Los Angeles Urban League. Shortly after retirement from IBM in 1993, he joined his sister, long time nurse Alice Moya, in starting Orion Home Health Agency. After retiring in 2006, he and his wife Shirley moved from Cerritos, CA to Mesa, Arizona to be near their two daughters and grandchildren.
James enjoyed spending time with family, staying active, and traveling. He was a giver supporting the American Heart Association, The American Diabetes Association, The American Legion, even PBS. James became a Christian in 1993 and joined Zoe Christian Fellowship of Whittier, Pastor Ed Smith. Church was important to him and he later became a member of Living Word Bible Church in Mesa, AZ.
James is survived by his wife and two children: Shirley Ann Gayle, Harriett Denise Gayle, and Carol Dawn Gayle; his grandchildren: Aundreea Nicole Clifton, Autumn Michelle Gayle, Camille Danielle Clifton, and Kenneth James Clifton with his wife Kristin; and his great grandson: Kaden Michael Clifton.
Celebration of James life will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco, TX
