Jane Voris

Jane Ann Voris of Llano joined her family in Heaven on February 6, 2023 at the age of 90.

She was born to James "Pete" and Susie Ricker on July 25, 1932 in Eastland, Texas. Close in age, she and her brother James were the best of friends. Summers were spent swimming, roller skating and climbing trees. During winter, however, she could be found in front of the fire curled up with a good book while the other kids played outside. As a teenager, she learned to play the piano and worked as a soda jerk at the local drug store. 

Moving to California, she worked as a grocery checker at Dahl's Market, retiring after 24 years. A tall, blue eyed gentleman started coming through her line, on purpose, and she quickly identified him as a bachelor based on what he had in his shopping cart. They were married July 1, 1960 and built their home in Ventura.  Having a son and daughter, they enjoyed trips in their motorhome and time spent on the lake in their boat. Jane developed a passion for water skiing and loved to slalom. 

Moving to Texas, she drove an 18 wheeler hauling sand a gravel for Sunbelt Trucking. Known by her handle, Calamity Jane, she held her own on the road.  Settling in Llano, she worked as a rural mail carrier for 32 years.  Upon her second retirement, she grew her own tomatoes and sat outside with her cats, watching the birds she fed every morning.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents Pete and Susie, her brother James, her husband of 35 years, Paul, her daughter Susan Janette and her son James "Jimbo" Voris,

She is survived by only granddaughter Mandi Schmidt and husband Richard, and three great-grandaughters, Sarah Varela and husband Julio, and Emily and Laura Fordyce.  She was proud to be their Mimi.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Llano American Legion Hall.  She will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco, Texas.
