Jerry Blackwell Obituary

Jerry L. Blackwell of Baird, TX passed away Wednesday, December 9 at Temple, TX. Jerry was the third son of Robert Edward Blackwell and Nora (Luttrell) Blackwell of Scranton, TX. Jerry graduated from Scranton High School where he played basketball and made the sixth man on the state team in 1959. He, then joined the Army. After spending 36 months, 30 of which were in Germany during the Berlin Wall Crisis, Jerry returned to Cisco. He attended Cisco Junior College earning an Associates Degree. He went to work for Lone Star Gas Co. and retired from Lone Star Gas.

At Cisco, Jerry met and married Nona Wilkerson in 1962 in Cisco. They had one daughter, Nora Jeffcoat of Marble Falls and three grandchildren. Natosha Blackwell of Maryland, Terry Jo Lee and husband, Jacob, of Guam, and Beaux Jeffcoat of Marble Falls.

 

Jerry was a member of the Clyde Church of Christ, where he filled in as a song leader when needed. He loved the Lord's church and fellowship of the church. He loved sports as well, especially golf and he and Nona were members at Shady Oaks Country Club in Baird.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert, mother, Nora, step father Arza Green, and his older brother Bobby Blackwell. He is survived by brother Jimmy Blackwell and wife, Becky of Clyde. Nieces and nephews include, Ray Blackwell, Gail Roberts and husband Gary, Sam Blackwell, Randy Blackwell and wife Kara, Jim Blackwell and wife Christa. Connie Thornton and husband, Kevin, Weldon Wilkerson and wife Stephanie. Carrie Blankenship and husband Tron, Shane Wilkerson, Walt Wilkerson, Jr. and wife Leeann. Great nieces and nephews aplenty.

 

A memorial  service will be held at  the Clyde Church  of  Christ Saturday, December 12 at 11am
