Joe Ray Keating

Joe Ray Keating was born June 26, 1939 in Comanche, Texas to Reta Mae (Cloud) Keating & George Herman Keating. He passed away July 20, 2022 at the age of 83 years and 34 days after being in ill health for several months.

He was baptized in Comanche County in the Baptist church as a young man. He married Sandra Lee Davenport on February 1, 1958 after being childhood sweethearts. They shared 64 wonderful years, having four children.

He leaves behind his wife Sandra Lee Keating and his four children: Jodi Lee (Keating) Crudgington, Nicki Ray (Keating) Knowlton and husband Tim Knowlton, Michael Lynn Keating and wife Vickie Keating, and Daniel Scott Keating. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Shanna Martinez and husband Michael Martinez, Cara Crudgington, Blair Thomas, Hailey Keating, Alex Thomas, Brandon Gotcher, Courtney Keating and Cassie Keating. Great grandchildren: Elizabeth Steadham, Connor Martinez and Mason Martinez.

He graduated from Comanche High School in 1957. He worked in grocery when he was young and then worked for General Telephone for several years, retiring from Southwestern Bell after 26 years. He started raising cattle in 1968, and spent many years involved with his love of animals and the land. Joe and Sandy moved into town in 2001. Never one to sit still, he started selling commercial type trucks and equipment, which continued until 2015. He and his wife were avid rodeo and PBR fans, spending many hours together enjoying the sport.

Joe was a loved, respected and appreciated husband, father, friend and mentor. His work ethic and love for his family were unrivaled. He will be missed by many.
