Katherine Shelton Deckard

Katherine Deckard, lovingly known as Kat Mama, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the sweet age of 91. Born and raised in Cisco, Texas, to Jennie V. Parker and Curtis Shelton Sr., Katherine was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister and friend whose legacy of faith, strength, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. 

Kat Mama was a steady presence in our lives—a source of wisdom, sass, and unwavering faith in God. She was known for her sharp wit, her strong spirit, and her boundless devotion to her family and community. She loved to sew, thrift, and garden, and took pride in making beauty out of the simplest things.

She is survived by brother Rogers Parker; daughter Janie Hurd; grandchildren Michelle Fletcher, Sheaneeta Kastle, Julius Reed, Yvette Fletcher, Tracey Rollins; great grandchildren Jalynn Williams, Carrington Hawkins, Khaliyaa Fletcher, Dom Jones, Syncere Reed, Salathiel Reed, Dorian Judkins, Sayvien Reed, Leilani Gilmore, Gianna Reed; great great grandchildren Ma'khi Fletcher Griffin, Maliea Fletcher, Xavier Williams, Cairo Williams and Amari Reed.

Kat Mama was preceded in death by brothers; Curtis Shelton Jr., Norman Lee Shelton, Johnny Parker and James Lee Parker; sisters Christine Chriesman, Bobra June Shelton, Florine Johnson, Jo Ann Jackson and Helen Parker.

A memorial service celebrating Katherine's life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 9, 2025, in the Kimbrough-Jacobs Funeral Home Chapel, 300 W 9th St in Cisco.
