Kenneth Lawson Thompson

Kenneth Lawson Thompson was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 5, 2022, after his unexpected death in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 73. Ken was born on December 22, 1948, in San Angelo, Texas at Shannon Memorial Hospital to Ernest Thompson and Maggie (Hallmark) Thompson. The family later relocated to Nimrod, Texas where Ken attended the old Scranton school system until it closed. Ken then transferred to Cisco ISD where he was active in FFA. He attended Cisco High School until 1968. Ken joined the Army in 1969 and did his basic training at Fort Bliss. There Ken was selected for military police training. During his time in the service Ken and his family were deployed to Maryland, Germany, and Fort Riley Kansas. Kenneth was awarded the National Defense Service Medal while he was in the Army.
Ken received an honorable discharge from the Army in 1977 at the rank of Staff Sergeant E-6. He returned to Cisco and attended Cisco Junior College from 1977 to 1979 where he studied Business Administration and Industrial Welding. Ken then began a career in the oilfield. He started out as a floor hand on the drilling rigs, and quickly worked his way up to driller and later became a tool pusher and did consulting work. Over the course of his 30-year career Ken worked in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Montana, and overseas in the Republic of Armenia. Ken was a character and loved to joke and cut up with everyone. He also enjoyed building things. Hunting and fishing, and spending time at his lake house in Cisco were the things he especially loved. Kenny, as he was known to his friends, was always willing to help anyone in need and was very generous to all. 
Ken is survived by his daughters, Lori (Jimmy) Brown and Sheri (Dennis) Smith, grandchildren Ashley Granucci and Cameron Brown, great granddaughters, Hanna Granucci and Lexa McGraw all of Clarksville Tennessee. Ken is also survived by his sisters, Diane (David) Boland of San Antonio and Deana (Eddie) Ingram of Gardendale, and his brother Ernest (Becky) Thompson of Austin.  Ken is survived by nieces and nephews, Rebecca Hudkins and Luke (Erin) Boland of San Antonio and Adam (Amy) Boland of Bulverde and Jordan (Misty) Boland of New Braunfels and Kenny Dee Thompson and Amanda (David) Richter of Midland, Summer (Anthony) Gruber of Columbia, SC, and Shelby Thompson of Austin. Ken is also survived by many cousins. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Maggie Thompson.
