Madeleine Meals Obituary

Madeleine Ruppert Meals, 96, of McKinney Texas, passed away May 4, 2020.  She was born in Cisco Texas on October 3, 1923.  Madeleine graduated Cisco High School and came to Parkland Hospital in Dallas for nursing training in 1943.  She worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Dallas after graduation.

Joining the Navy in 1948, Madeleine was sent to Great Lakes Naval Station and then to Millington TN before being sent to Korea aboard the USS Consolation as an operating nurse. After a year in Korea, she returned to California, and after separating from the Navy she again worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital and eventually transferred back to Dallas and the VA Hospital there.

Madeleine continued to work as a nurse and nursing supervisor at various hospitals in Abilene and the Dallas area. She rounded out her nursing career by instructing nurses at Baylor Hospital while attached to El Centro College.  She retired from her nursing and teaching careers in 1985 to nurse her ailing mother.

Madeleine had a servant’s heart and volunteered at Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Ladies of Charity, Catholic Daughters, and The Altar Society of ST. Thomas Aquinas, Dallas.  She served at Scottish Rite for over 40 years, and could be found at the gift shop or making crafts for their semi-annual Bazaar.  Even when she could no longer drive and lived in McKinney, she still found ways to contribute to the hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents George and Pauline (nee Duriez) Ruppert, her aunt Colette (nee Duriez) Ruppert, her sister Paulette (nee Ruppert) Brown, and her son Stephen Meals.

Madeleine is survived by her children Greg (Inge) Meals, Pauline Story, and Ronnie Meals. Her Sister Jacqueline (nee Ruppert) Berry Her grandchildren Richard (Nikki) Reyes Jr., Lauren (Randy) Polk, Morgan (Nicole) Prine, Danielle Meals, Stephanie Meals, Matthew Meals, and Antalya Meals.
