Ronald Glenn Palmer

Ron Palmer, 79, of Lake Cisco and formerly of Abilene passed away Nov. 24 at The Woodlands Assisted Living in Eastland.

He was born Dec. 13, 1941 in Merkel to Nolan and Annie Lee (Dubose) Palmer. Ron played football for the Merkel Badgers and graduated from Merkel High School in 1960 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Marines until 1966 as an engineer, including tours in Southeast Asia. Following his service, he returned to Merkel to start work for his father at Palmer Motor Co.

He married Susan Morgan in Aug. 1968 and they made their home in Abilene, having two wonderful children, Janese and Morgan.

Through his career in auto sales, he became co-owner of Holiday Motors in Abilene, Palmer Pontiac & GMC in Merkel, and later, Palmer Motor Co. in Merkel and Cisco. He was a member of the Merkel Lions Club and a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Ron and Susan retired to their home on Lake Cisco in 2001 where he enjoyed working on his boat, fishing, and viewing classic car auctions and good movies.

Survivors include his wife, Susan; daughter Janese (Stephen) Massey of Fort Worth and their son Truman; son Morgan Palmer of Mercer Island; sister Patricia (Ron) Leveridge of Lake Conroe and brothers-in-law Dick Morgan of Lake Cisco and Greg Morgan of Abilene.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be held by family at a later date. Memorials may be made to any charity of choice.
