Zelda Ruth (Hastings) Durning

Zelda Ruth (Hastings) Durning of Abilene passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at the age of 84.

Zelda was born May 11, 1938 in Carbon, Texas to Almus and Eddie Hastings.  She attended Cisco High School.  Zelda married Charles Durning on July 27, 1957 in Odessa, Texas, and the couple had two children. She retired after a 29 year career with the Texas Department of Public Safety, working in the El Paso and Abilene areas.

She loved quilting, working in the vegetable garden at the family farm, and was actively involved in church.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Charles Durning; daughter Monda Thurston and son Chuck Durning; grandchildren Kilea (Adam) Johnson, Bethany (Johnie) Ramirez, and Sterling Durning; great-grandchildren Chance Durning and Adalyine Johnson; sister Linnie (Johnie) Cox and Sherri Jennings.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Kimbrough Funeral Home.  Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Friday, December 2, 2022, at Longbranch Cemetery.
