I have so many wonderful memories of Aunt Marie and Uncle Bob. Aunt Marie had a wonderful “Neugent sense of humor” and was always so pleasant. She and I used to
write letters to each other when I was a little boy. Her letters were sometimes hard to
read because she would start in the middle of the page and then spiral the sentences
round and round until she reached the edge. Or….I might get a letter written in “Pig Latin.” She and dad aways had so much fun teasing one another although Dad made
her cry a few times when they were kids…..like when she wanted to go to a party but
couldn’t go unless Dad went with her. They’d get part way to the party when he’d turn
around and announce he wasn’t going. She’d cry and then Dad would decide he would
go. I don’t know how many times he would do this but, to Aunt Marie, ONE time was
one too many. I have a picture of Aunt Marie and my dad sitting in a horse drawn buggy
that was probably taken in about 1923-24. I also have one of her and dad (and Buddy, I think) that was taken in a studio. Marie had her hand closed except for her pinky. She said she wanted to see if that would show up in the picture. And, of course, there
is the trip from Liberty Hill to someplace outside of Tulsa Oklahoma in a COVERED WAGON. I’ve heard stories from her and Dad about that trip and how Grandpa offered
to sell them to a black man along the way because they were misbehaving.

She and I still wrote to one another over the past few years. She had beautiful handwriting even in her 90’s.

Young folks today are missing out on some of the most wonderful and interesting stories by not listening to their parents and grandparents. Take a break and listen…..it’ll do you and your elders good.

I so very sorry I can’t make the funeral. I’d give anything to be there but...

Love,
Jimmy Dan and Terri
